THE government in collaboration with the church has commissioned classroom infrastructure and furniture worth US$1.6 million for Bulawayo schools.
The popular adage ‘teamwork makes the dream work’ was evident at the commissioning of infrastructure for seven schools in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province this Monday, thanks to combined efforts by the government and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.
Schools that received the donation of classroom blocks and furniture reiterated that the gesture goes a long way in enhancing the quality of education.
“We are really excited about what has been done for our schools because we have a problem of hot sitting as we have 3 sessions in our school. The construction of this block will greatly reduce the hot sitting. We are so overjoyed. I have no words to express gratitude to the government and the church for the efforts they are doing,” said one of the school heads.
Passion for educating the youth and providing quality education is what moved the church.
“We are passionate about the youth because they are the future leaders of the nation and the church. We are happy to be partners in providing quality education for the children of Zimbabwe,” said the church representative, Fortunate Chitiyo.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Honourable Torerai Moyo said the government is on a drive to improve education service delivery through the provision of infrastructure.
“The government of Zimbabwe through the mandate it gave to the ministry, is aggressively moving in the trajectory of providing new schools in its communities, thus today we are commissioning school facilities here at Cowdray Park High School,” he said.
Schools that benefitted from the initiative include Gampu Primary, Lobengula Primary, Cowdray Park Primary and Mkhithika Thebe, among others.
The government is on a drive to close the 2 800 schools deficit gap through the construction of more learning facilities countrywide.
