The Government of Zimbabwe has given an update on the current construction of the Mbudzi Interchange, which started last year.
The project aims to upgrade the Mbudzi roundabout junction along the Harare-Masvingo highway to an interchange intersection involving the major roads of High Glen, Simon Mazorodze and Chitungwiza. It will ease the traffic congestion and reduce the travel time at the junction, which is one of the busiest in Harare.
Fossil Mines Private Limited, the parent company of Fossil Contracting, and one of the joint venture partners, is undertaking the project. The other partners are Tensor Systems and Masimba Construction, and they are collectively operating under the banner of TEFOMA Construction joint venture. Government, through the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, is supervising the project.
The project involves the construction of a three-tier grade-separated intersection with 13 major bridge structures, 14 approach roads and a diversion route of Amalinda road and its bridge. The project started in 2022 and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2024.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has provided an update on the construction of the Mbudzi Interchange. The ministry said so far, it is 53% complete and contractors have finished building four bridges.
Posting on X, the Ministry said:
“Construction works at the Mbudzi Interchange are progressing well with the project now at 53%completion. The 2nd Republic continues to upgrade infrastructure as the country gears towards the attainment of #Vision2030.”

Social media users spoke on the update on the Mbudzi Interchange construction.
Rex:
“Second pic shows how shoddy the workmanship is. You can clearly see that structure isn’t straight and it’s not level. I think someone is cutting corners in order to maximize on profit. What a disaster that would be.”
Shepherd:
“The minister has no shame after lying and claiming this project will take just 12 months.”
Kudzie:
“Not sure how you arrived at 53% but there is still a lot of work to be done there.”
John:
“Great project there. Next stop Mabvuku junction, Samora Machel & Rekayi Tangwena and Julius Nyerere/Seke road (bottle neck) flyover.”
Erick:
It doesn’t look like a HIVE OF ACTIVITIES there, has the cement run out or is it the $US88 million that as been exhausted
