A Grade 3 student tragically lost her life during a devastating hailstorm that struck the Zvomukonde area of Mberengwa East on Monday.
The storm, which brought with it powerful winds and heavy rain, caused widespread destruction, leaving the community in shock.
The young girl had sought refuge in a local shop to escape the storm when the hailstorm hit, leading to her untimely death.

According to sources, several students from Zvomukonde secondary school were also reportedly injured during the storm. Reports indicate that some were taken to Shabani Hospital for treatment following the incident.

In addition to the tragic loss of life and injuries sustained, the storm caused severe damage to infrastructure in the region.
The powerful winds ripped off roofs, leaving buildings exposed to the elements. Over 100 homesteads were destroyed, while the Zvomukonde secondary school also suffered significant damage, with nearly all classroom roofs torn off.
The storm’s impact also extended to essential services, as a local clinic was damaged and rendered inoperable. The Department of Civil Protection Unit is currently assessing the full extent of the damage to provide necessary support and aid.
