Police in Chembe District have arrested 35-year-old Wington Chama for allegedly holding his 78-year-old grandmother, Antinet Mwape, hostage for two days, accusing her of practicing witchcr@ft.
Chama demanded K3,000 from his grandmother to take his sick child to a traditional healer, claiming the child was bew!tched by her.
Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer, Yuyi Mwala, confirmed the incident, which occurred between September 30 and October 2, 2024.
Thankfully, the police rescued Mwape after her daughter, Bertha Yakonde, reported the situation.
Mwape was found unh@rmed and has been reunited with her family. Chama faces charges of unlawful confinement and accusing someone of witchcraft under the Witchcraft Act.
He will appear in court soon.
