A Gweru man, Shandreck Dube has been acquitted of a r@pe charge after spending three years in remand pr!son awaiting trial.
Shadreck Dube was taken into custody in 2021 following a police report from the complainant, who alleged that he had rap3d her at Insukamini Dam.
According to court papers, “on March 14, 2021, Dube proposed to the complainant at Insukamini Business Centre, then allegedly dragged her to Insukamini Dam and r@ped her twice.”
During the trial, the court determined that the complainant had falsely accused Shadreck, and a medical report confirmed no evidence of sexu@l ass@ult, though it noted the complainant was sexu@lly active despite her young age.
However, the court deemed the allegations unsubstantiated and ultimately ruled in favor of the accused, declaring him not guilty.
Gweru Magistrate Mr. Christopher Maturure determined that there was insufficient evidence to connect Dube to the alleged offense.
