Following the discovery of gold deposits in the vicinity, the Gweru police have taken measures to cordon off a section of Gweru policealong the Gweru-Shurugwi highway. This action comes in response to the outbreak of skirmishes caused by a group of artisanal miners.
According to law enforcement officials, the situation escalated after numerous residents raised concerns about the sudden influx of over 100 artisanal miners into the suburb, all in pursuit of the precious metal.
Norman Machacha, a resident of the area, expressed his frustration at the situation, having exhausted all his efforts to deter the miners from encroaching on his residential property. As a last resort, he reached out to the police for assistance.
In an effort to restore order and ensure the safety of the community, the police promptly intervened by establishing a cordon in the affected part of the suburb.
