A heart-stopping and avoidable tragedy unfolded in Harare on Saturday, resulting in the untimely demise of a 27-year-old bus conductor.
According to reports, the young victim’s life was cruelly cut short when he was horrifically run over by the very bus he had jumped from in a misguided attempt to pick up a passenger.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) issued a stern warning to bus and commuter omnibus conductors, emphasizing the perilous consequences of opening doors while vehicles are in motion.
“The ZRP cautions conductors against this reckless practice, which can have devastating and irreversible repercussions,” the authorities stated.

According to eyewitness accounts and police reports, the conductor opened the door while the bus was moving, intending to pick up a passenger.
Tragically, he lost his footing and tumbled onto the asphalt before being struck by the bus’s rear wheels.
The victim sustained severe and ultimately fatal head inj_ries and was rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his inj_ries upon arrival.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritising safety and exercising extreme caution while working on or traveling by public transportation.
