Heart & Soul TV senior journalist Blessed Mhlanga’s bid for freedom has been put on hold until Monday after Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei deferred the bail ruling. Mhlanga, represented by Chris Mhike, is facing an incitement to violence charge under section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Mhike made an oral bail application citing changed circumstances, including the State’s failure to commence investigations and the passage of time. The defence council opposed the State’s request to postpone the case to April 22, arguing that Mhlanga’s continued detention was unjustified.
The State had initially indicated that it needed only 14 days to complete investigations, but has yet to do so. Mhike emphasized that the State’s request for postponement lacked merit and would only serve to extend Mhlanga’s stay in custody.
