In a surprising turn of events, Kudzai Kadzombe, who recently assumed office as the deputy mayor of Harare, has been arrested on allegations of assaulting a member of the Zanu PF party during the harmonized elections. Kadzombe, who secured the council seat on a CCC ticket, is now facing legal consequences just a week into her new role.
The arrest was confirmed by Gift Siziba, the deputy spokesperson of the CCC party. However, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi claimed to be unaware of the incident at the time. Kadzombe is set to appear in court at Harare’s Rotten Row Magistrate Court on Friday at 8:15 am.
Interestingly, Siziba himself, who is also a Member of Parliament for Pelandaba Tshabalala, was briefly detained on Wednesday. He was subsequently released but has been summoned to appear in court on charges of inciting violence at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo on Sunday.
