In a controvercial act, Headman Burton Nerupiri of Gutu made a massive harvest at the funeral of late Brigadier Charles Gumbo’s wife where he demanded the whole hind leg of the slaughtered beast. He shared it with his village head David Mahove. This left mourners without enough relish.
In a statement seen by Newsreportzim on X
Nerupiri is now demanding US$100 because he did not get an opportunity to speak at the funeral. Ironically Brigadier Gumbo is the most successful Zimbabwe commander post independence (DRC campaign) and the funeral of his wife Grace was fully funded by the State.
If traditional leaders can do this to revered heroes like Gumbo the question is how much more repression is there for ordinary villagers?
