The government is set to implement a new remuneration package that includes an increment in the United States dollar component to cushion them from the rising cost of living.
According to Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima, the new pay offer, which will also include a Zimbabwe dollar salary bump, could be tabled during this week’s National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) meeting.
“Our workers are important to us,” stated Prof Mavima, adding that the government is “looking at all possibilities” of cushioning public workers as Treasury finalizes the new package.
The pay rise is reportedly “imminent” and will be effected “within a day” once internal government consultations have been concluded. Negotiations with the government will resume shortly, said Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions president Mrs Cecilia Alexander.
Workers are eagerly anticipating the new package, which is expected to cater to their needs and prevent them from engaging in corruption and hustling. The government is alive to the urgent need for a cost of living adjustment and is set to effectuate it as quickly as possible.
