In a recent development, several prominent figures have found themselves at the center of a controversy involving the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). Namatayi Kwekweza, the executive director of WELEAD Trust; Robson Chere, the secretary-general of ARTUZ; Vusumuzi Moyo; and Samuel Gwenzi, the Harare Ward 5 Councillor, have all been confirmed to have been detained by the ZRP.
According to reports from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, these individuals spent the night at the Harare Central Police Station. Their arrest stems from their involvement in a demonstration at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.

The protest was sparked by the earlier arrest of CCC member Jameson Timba along with 77 other party members in June. The demonstrators were charged with disorderly conduct following the incident.
The situation took a further twist yesterday when the detained individuals were held for approximately eight hours at the RGM International Airport.
It wasn’t until late into the evening that the whereabouts of Kwekweza, Chere, Moyo, and Gwenzi became known.
Prior to their scheduled departure, state security officials intervened and removed them from the plane they had boarded.
The group was en route to Victoria Falls to attend the 5th African Philanthropy Conference, an event they were slated to participate in.
