Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has come to the rescue of Highlanders Football Club, injecting much-needed cash to clear outstanding winning bonuses arrears. The club has paid $57,000 to settle debts owed to players and technical staff for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
This timely intervention is part of a larger $1 million support package from Chivayo, with the first tranche of $250,000 already disbursed. The funding will not only settle bonuses but also drive infrastructure development, including an 800-meter perimeter wall at the Highlanders Clubhouse.
Highlanders captain Ariel Sibanda welcomed the payment, saying it has motivated the players to perform. Jabulani Nkomo, overseeing Chivayo’s funds, emphasized the importance of using the donation wisely to benefit the club.
