A cloud of horror hangs over Ukuzwisisa Village in Filabusi after an 8-week-old baby boy was found gruesomely murdered in a suspected ritual killing. The infant’s body was discovered with his nose and right cheek hacked off, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder. According to Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the baby’s mother had left him sleeping in a spare bedroom while she was having breakfast in a kitchen hut. The police are appealing to the public for any leads that could result in the arrest of those responsible for the brutal crime.
In a separate incident, a 20-year-old woman, Janet Mudzingwa, was arrested in Gokwe on charges of concealing the birth of a child. Authorities say Mudzingwa gave birth on May 22, 2025, and allegedly disposed of the newborn by throwing the infant into a disused toilet pit
Both cases have sparked outrage and concern over the safety and protection of children, as well as the growing prevalence of hidden crimes in rural communities. The ZRP has urged communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
