A seemingly ordinary morning on June 29, 2024, turned into a heart-wrenching tragedy in Hwange when an argument over ice cream within one household spiraled into a deeply disturbing incident.
It began with a simple, innocent request from a 44-year-old woman to her husband of 47.
Their young daughter had been eagerly waiting for a special treat—ice cream.
This was not just a dessert; it was a small, sweet promise of joy for their child. With this in mind, the woman approached her husband and asked if he could buy the ice cream.
However, instead of a warm affirmation or even a gentle refusal, the husband’s response was cold and dismissive. He claimed he had no money. What should have been a minor disappointment quickly ignited into a heated argument.

Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene, their concern etched into their faces as they found themselves thrust into a nightmare unfolding next door.
The arrival of the neighbors was a critical moment, forcing the husband to release his grip and flee from the scene. The wife, though shaken and bru!sed, was left with a pa!nful reminder of a morning that began with such simple hope.
The accused was brought before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court, where the gravity of his actions was laid bare.
He was charged with physical abus3 and he was fined USD 400, a sum he was required to pay by August 30, 2024.
