Hwange’s community is in mourning following the passing of a beloved local figure, known to all as “Big Charlie.”
The giant of a man, renowned for his remarkable physical presence, passed away this Tuesday morning at St. Patrick’s Hospital in the Empumalanga suburb.
He was 2.1 metres tall and weighed an impressive 300 kilograms.
Big Charlie’s passing came after a period of illness. According to family Spokesperson Ms. Susan Ndlovu, he had been battling high blood pressure and diabetes.

“He was admitted to the hospital on Thursday night, and we remained hopeful,” Ms. Ndlovu shared, expressing the family’s deep sorrow. “We are devastated by his loss.”
Beyond his imposing size, Big Charlie was known for his distinctive lifestyle.
He had a unique dietary routine, starting his day with a teapot of tea for breakfast.
His lunch and dinner meals were typically equivalent to the portions consumed by three average-sized men.
Big Charlie’s extraordinary stature and personality made him a memorable and cherished figure in Hwange, and his absence will be deeply felt by the entire community.
