A young man from Chitungwiza, identified as Carlos Makore, has received a one-year pr!son sentence after being found gu!lty of robbery.
The 20-year-old, who is expecting his first child, argued that he resorted to cr!me as a means of supporting his pregnant partner; however, his rationale did not resonate with the judge.
In his appearance at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court, Makore confessed to st3aling a Samsung A52 smartphone along with a wallet containing US$10. “I only wanted to gather some money to help my wife get ready for the baby,” he explained in his defense.
The prosecution revealed that on the night of November 8, around midnight, Makore teamed up with two other individuals to confront Ngonidzaishe Choruwa on Denga Road in Zengeza.

The trio overpowered Choruwa, allowing Makore to seize his phone and wallet.
Authorities apprehended Makore two days later; they managed to recover the stolen phone, yet the cash was still missing, and his accomplices have not yet been caught.
The magistrate dismissed his plea for compassion, imposing a 12-month prison term, with two months suspended on the condition that he refrains from committing similar offenses for the next five years.
Makore’s attempt to assist his family has resulted in significant personal consequences, including missing the arrival of his child.
Though he may have had noble intentions, his choice to engage in criminal behavior highlights the futility of such actions when faced with life’s difficulties.
