The Director General for the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Ms Amy Pope has today 10 December, 2024, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare.
The Organization works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, be they refugees, displaced persons or other,
Ms Amy Pope has broke the history of 73 years as the the Director General for the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to visit the Zimbabwe. Speaking during the meeting at State House, Ms Amy Pope said,
“I am the first Director General of the IOM to visit Zimbabwe in 73 years history. I am here because of the importance of the country and Government in responding to the issue of migration whether it’s here in the region.”
The two discussed climate change as a driver of migration and strategies to formalise migration, ensuring migrant workers contribute to economic growth. Zimbabwe is committed to sustainable migration solutions.
