South African actress Sonia Mbele is groaning in pain after she was severely injured following a freak accident.
The Real Housewives of Johannesburg owner has decided to go out of action for the remainder of the year after a recent bad injury at her Johannesburg home. So hectic was the injury that now she can’t even walk.
She told Zimoja she had misstepped at home and fell down the stairs. As a result, she badly hurt her toe and broke her leg in the freak accident. She has since closed her office until January 2024.
Sonia disclosed:
“I am home for the rest of the year. I am still in pain, but I will be fine.”
Bad luck seems to be hogging Sonia Mbele this year. Recently, she went to plush Saints Restaurant in Sandton, Johannesburg. A random man sneaked up on her, snatched her wig and smashed her in the back.
A source within Sonia’s circle told the publication that the actress and executive producer is emotionally drained because of everything that has happened to her this year.
“She has had a long year full of drama,” the insider rued.
In May this year, Sonia Mbele collapsed in the run-up to the launch of Real Housewives of Johannesburg. Initially, doctors told her that it was exhaustion and anxiety and she needed to chill a bit. After further tests, they later diagnosed her with a chronic autoimmune disease. The condition also causes anaemia.
The condition has drastically changed her life, both physically and emotionally. Sonia revealed:
“I had to quit alcohol, and I now have to go for drips to make sure I have enough iron.”
As if that was not enough, the South African Revenue Authority (SARS) dragged Sonia Mbele to court for tax evasion. She could not even attend two court sessions as she was ill.
