In a significant development preceding the forthcoming general elections, the Constitutional Court of South Africa has declared the former President, Jacob Zuma, ineligible to pursue candidacy for public office in the scheduled May 29th general election.
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) News disseminated an official announcement via its X handle account, affirming the Constitutional Court’s ruling, which bars Jacob Zuma from contesting in this month’s electoral proceedings.
Consequently, Jacob Zuma’s name will be expunged from the MK list of candidates vying in the elections.
It is anticipated that Zuma will now adopt a narrative positioning himself as a martyr, a strategy that may energise his support base to turn out and vote in favor of his political party.
Jacob Zuma, who held the presidential office for nearly nine years, was compelled to step down by the ANC National Executive Committee.
