Jada Pinkett appeared on The Breakfast Club and shared her thoughts about the current accusations against Will Smith. Charlamagne tha God, one of the hosts, was talking about the gossip that comes with being a Hollywood star. He asked Jada: “How does it feel in 2023 to still have those same rumours out about people you love? Like Will and Duane?”
“That just came out too,” chimed in DJ Envy, another host. Earlier this week, Brother Bilaal, who claimed to be Will’s former personal assistant said that he caught Will and his Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star Duane Martin engaging in a sexual act.
Jada replied. “Let me just say this… It’s ridiculous right? And it’s nonsense and this is a person who tried a money shakedown that didn’t work. And we’re gonna take legal action because it’s one thing to have your opinion about somebody versus just making up salacious, malicious stories. So that’s actionable, so we’re gonna roll with that.”
The actress continued, answering Charlamagne’s question about having rumours spread about those you love. “Unfortunately it’s part of it. You know what I mean it’s not true, we’re gonna take care of it and that’s that.”
Charlamagne, along with the rest of the world, seemed shocked at the revelation that Bilaal wanted money before. “There was a money shakedown prior?” he asked.
“It’s based around this person’s idea that they in some way were doing business around Will’s book and that they spent money and they need to be compensated,” Jada said.
“So he already tried to do that money shakedown,” she continued, “Will was willing to give him a certain amount or what have you and he didn’t take it so this whole situation is based on that.”
Jada claimed Will offered him money because he was somehow involved in a business deal with Will. “I don’t have the complete details about it but that’s about to come out because like I told you, we’re about to take legal action,” she said.
DJ Envy asked how her estranged husband was dealing with the accusations. “Here’s one good thing about Will, he’s always going to find the funny,” Jada said, “You have to because it’s absolutely ridiculous so you just got to laugh about it and it’s unfortunate. He was like: ‘do you believe this s**t?’”
Will also issued a statement prior to the release of Jada’s comment. The statement said the claims were “unequivocally false” and backed up Jada’s claim that legal action will be taken.
