A disturbing case has emerged from Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison, where inmate Brian Shereni, 39, has been charged with aggravated indecent ass@ult against a fellow inmate. Shereni appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs. Marehwanazvo Gofa, where he was informed of his right to apply for bail through the High Court. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 11, as investigations continue.
According to Zimpapers, the alleged incident took place on October 29 at around 5 a.m. According to the State, Shereni reportedly took advantage of his sleeping cellmate, a 36-year-old inmate, and allegedly s3xually ass@ulted him without consent.
The victim awoke mid-ass@ult and called for help, alerting nearby inmates who reportedly intervened. The incident was subsequently reported to a senior inmate, who escalated the matter to the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) officers and later to the Zimbabwe Republic Police at Highlands.
The case has raised concerns regarding the safety of inmates within Chikurubi, a facility known for its high-security protocols.
