A dramatic turn of events has unfolded in the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) as Harare West Member of Parliament, Joanah Mamombe, has slapped a US$100,000 defamation lawsuit on fellow CCC legislator Bridget Nyandoro, representing Southerton constituency.
The lawsuit stems from a series of explosive allegations made by Nyandoro against Mamombe, including claims of an affair with former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa and exchanging sexual favors for benefits from ruling party members. Other allegations included harboring hatred for Nyandoro, corruption, fabricating an abduction, and moral hypocrisy.
Mamombe vehemently denies these claims, stating they have severely damaged her reputation, portraying her as dishonest, corrupt, and untrustworthy. Nyandoro’s accusations, according to Mamombe, are nothing but a vicious smear campaign.
The court documents reveal damning quotes attributed to Nyandoro, including accusations of Mamombe’s supposed relationship dynamics and her alleged willingness to testify falsely to benefit her ties with Chamisa. Mamombe has given Nyandoro a 10-day ultimatum to respond to the summons, warning that failure to do so will lead the High Court to proceed with the case without her input.
This high-stakes drama unfolds against the backdrop of internal CCC conflicts, raising questions about loyalty, power dynamics, and the lengths to which politicians will go to protect their reputations.
