Kwaito pioneer Victor Bogopane, known to fans as Doc Shebeleza, has tr@gically passed away at the age of 51, leaving a significant void in the South African music scene.
This news comes on the heels of another loss, as the nation mourns the recent passing of fellow artist Winnie Khumalo, also at the age of 51.
According to a report from “Times Live,” a family member confirmed that the beloved artist, known for his hit “Ebumnandini,” d!ed on the morning of Thursday, January 9.
Doc Shebeleza had faced health challenges in the past year and was preparing for surgery scheduled for February.

The entertainment industry is already reacting to his death, with notable figures like Phil Mphela and rapper L’tido expressing their condolences.
L’tido shared a heartfelt tribute, recalling how Doc Shebeleza generously allowed him to sample the classic “Gets Getsa” for his own work in 2014, without asking for any compensation, which he noted is rare in the music realm. “RIP Doc Shebeleza. He was a true giant in our industry,” lamented L’tido.
Fans of the genre are also sharing their grief. One supporter remarked, “The music world has lost a true icon. Doc Shebeleza’s contributions to Kwaito will always be remembered. Our deepest sympathies to his family and all who adored him. May his music continue to resonate.”
