The uMkhonto WeSizwe Party (MKP) has filed an urgent application at the Constitutional Court to prevent the first sitting of the National Assembly scheduled for Friday.
This action follows the removal of Jabulani Khumalo, a representative of MKP, from the list of members to be sworn in.
The MKP seeks to interdict Chief Justice Raymond Zondo and Secretary of Parliament Xolile George from convening the first sitting, citing concerns that may affect the party’s representation in the National Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has already handed over lists of members of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures to the Chief Justice, who subsequently passed them to the Secretary of Parliament, setting the stage for the swearing-in of members.
