Pop star Justin Timberlake, 43, was arrested and charged for driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, Long Island, after being stopped by police for running a stop sign and swerving on the road.
Timberlake was arrested on Tuesday morning and formally charged with driving while intoxicated.
He was released without bail and is scheduled to appear virtually in court on July 26.
Police officers reported that Timberlake’s eyes were “bl00dsh0t and glassy” and that he had a strong odor of alc0hol on his breath.
He also refused a breathalyzer test and allegedly told the officer he had only had one martini and was following his friends home.
Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., said that he will “vigorously defend” his client and is currently engaged in the discovery process with the District Attorney’s Office.
The incident comes just days before Timberlake was set to embark on a global tour of his sixth album, Everything I Thought It Was.
The pop star has been open about his struggles with excessive drinking in the past.
In New York state, penalties for driving while intoxicated can include up to a year in jail, a $1000 fine, and the suspension of a driver’s license for at least six months.
