The Minister of Home Affairs, Hon Kazembe Kazembe, has issued a chilling warning against opposition activists accused of planning to roll out prot£sts ahead of the SADC summit this month.
Zimbabwe will host the 44th SADC Summit in Harare on 17 August with heads of states and their delegations set to land into the country for the summit.
The opposition activists were accused of planning a prot£st over detained Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members including the party’s interim leader Hon Jameson Timba who were arrested on the 16th of June 2024 and they were charged with attending an illegal gathering.
The opposition accuses the country’s judiciary of being captured by the country’s rulers and passing unfavorable rulings against Zanu PF opponents.
“Fellow citizens, we note with serious concern the relentless efforts by some misguided political act¡vists who are trying hard to foment unrest and disturb the smooth hosting of the summit,” Kazembe said
Hon. Minister Kazembe Kazembe’s comments follow the renewed clampdown on opposition gatherings by the security forces, which accuses activists of attempting to destabilise and embarrass the country as it prepares to host the SADC summit in few weeks to come.
