FORMER Zimbabwe international Kuda Mahachi has ended speculation surrounding his future after it was confirmed yesterday he has joined Ghanaian side Medeama SC ahead of the upcoming season.
The 29-year-old winger joins the Ghanaian champions on a one-year renewable contract on a free transfer after leaving South African club SuperSport United.
Medeama are strengthening their squad for their maiden participation in the CAF Champions League, which begins later this month.
Mahachi was released by the South African Premier League side in July 2022 in the backdrop of his court issues back in Zimbabwe.
According to the experienced footballer, his world crumbled after he was accused of abuse and attempted murder of his son Diego.
The Zimbabwean star was also embroiled in marital woes, which saw him being nabbed. He was acquitted of both charges. However, his career had already crashed and is looking to bounce back. Before SuperSport, Mahachi previously played for Orlando Pirates, Golden Arrows, and Mamelodi Sundowns in the South African elite league.
He made a total of 153 appearances in the South African Premier League, scoring 20 goals and delivering 19 assists in the process. Mahachi has 41 caps with four goals for the Zimbabwe national team since making his debut on September 9, 2013, against Mozambique in a World Cup qualifying match.
He was part of the Zimbabwe squad for the 2014 African Nations Championship. He helped the team to a fourth-place finish after being defeated by Nigeria.He was also a member of the Warriors squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Meanwhile, the recalling of ex-Warriors left back by South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns has excited his former mentor Siphambaniso Dube who founded Ajax Hotspurs FC.
Last week Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena confirmed that the pacey and technically gifted Lunga, who previously turned out for local Premier Soccer League side Chicken Inn, was part of his plans for this season.
Lunga returned to Amasandawana last month after spending the previous campaign on loan at Golden Arrows.
He reportedly impressed during the temporary stay at Abafana Besithende, making a massive 30 appearances across all competitions while playing either as a leftback or in midfield.
Courtesy of the player’s breathtaking performances, Golden Arrows are said to have then proposed to buy back their former player. Be that as it may, Lunga has remained at the Brazilians who in the past weekend in their quest to clinch a seventh Premiership straight league title, triumphed 2-1 over Sekhukhune United in a match where both sides had a player sent off.
“This is another chance to prove himself at Sundowns. I trust in Lunga’s talent and believe as an international player he is ready to take the challenge.
“Sundowns is loaded with talent but Devine knows competition can make him better. I certainly know he will not sit on his laurels and relax.
“He really has to prove himself and I’m very much happy about his return to Sundowns,” said Dube, who is the director of Mpopoma-based Ajax Hotspurs, the junior club where Lunga played his first competitive games.
