In their recent warm-up match against the U.S.A., the Zimbabwe senior women’s cricket team demonstrated a strong performance ahead of the 2024 Women’s Global T20 World Cup Qualifiers. The Lady Chevrons were able to restrict the American side to a total of 124 runs for 4 wickets in the first innings, setting themselves a manageable target to chase.
In response, the Lady Chevrons successfully chased down the required runs in just 19 overs, achieving a comfortable 6-wicket victory. This result bodes well for the team as they gear up for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.
Josephine Nkomo and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano were the top batswomen for the Lady Chevrons as they posted 38 runs each.
“Happy with where we are as a team, still got some issues to work on.
“Bowling was very good today, the change-ups were good and the spinners were well.
“I think a lot of the things has very little to do with skill but it’s all about the mindset, so generally I’m happy with where we are,” said team interim coach Walter Chawaguta during the post-match interview.
The Zimbabwe women’s cricket team, also known as the Lady Chevrons, will face Scotland in their final warm-up match before the Women’s Global T20 Qualifiers. The qualifier matches will begin on Thursday, with Zimbabwe playing their opening match against Vanuatu.
Ten teams are participating in the Women’s Global T20 Qualifiers and are divided into two groups: Group A and Group B. Group A comprises Uganda, USA, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Scotland, while Group B consists of Vanuatu, Netherlands, Ireland, hosts United Arab Emirates, and Zimbabwe. The top two teams from each group will secure a spot in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh later this year.
