A 70-year-old Buhera man, Sekuru Aaron Njuko, has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment for the rape of a 7-year-old girl from the same village. The incident occurred on June 26th in Buhera in Manicaland province.
According to a statement released by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) on X (formerly Twitter), Njuko encountered the victim while she was alone, herding cattle. He lured her closer before dragging her to a secluded location where the assault took place.
The NPAZ statement detailed the events of that day: “On 26 June Aaron Njuko saw the complainant who was alone herding cattle and called her. He dragged her into a secluded place where he raped her. Njuko was caught in the act by the complainant’s sister who was looking for the complainant. A police report was made, leading to his arrest.”
The swift action of the victim’s sister proved crucial in bringing Njuko to justice. Upon discovering the assault, she immediately reported the crime to the police, leading to Njuko’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.
