However, his passion took a dark turn when he was unable to locate one specific snooker ball. Overwhelmed by distress, Takunda resorted to a desperate act. His cousin brother, Alfred Gavaza, received a distress call from Takunda’s tuck shop and hurriedly rushed to the scene with his sister, Mary Maroyizingoni. There, they discovered Takunda writhing in agony.
“We offered him water, which he drank,” recalled Alfred. “Soon after, he started vomiting and confessed to ingesting three tablets of rat poison. He believed that taking his own life was his only escape, as he couldn’t bear losing the pool ball.”
Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the Harare provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the tragic incident and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway. “The police are currently conducting an investigation into the case of a Mabvuku man who reportedly consumed rat poison,” stated Inspector Chakanza. “Takunda was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital at approximately 2100hrs, where he was admitted. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the poison the following day.”
