Bulawayo Archbishop Emmanuel Mutumwa, leader of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Sect, has sparked a heated debate in both the Christian community and the gambling world after revealing that he received a winning formula resulting in $30,000 at a local casino.
He claimed that he broke the previous record by almost double, making it the largest jackpot ever recorded at the casino.
However, his celebrations were short-lived as casinos in Bulawayo have now prohibited him from playing to prevent excessive payouts to the frequent winner.
Mutumwa justified his earnings, stating that he used the funds to cover educational expenses for certain individuals within his congregation and to offer initial capital for their business ventures.
Despite this, Mutumwa’s decision to advocate for the act of gambling has sparked widespread disapproval from the Christian community. He argued that gambling can be a source of good fortune that can be channeled towards helping others, and that many people have reported winning more frequently since seeking his guidance.
A manager at a local casino confirmed that betting establishments typically restrict or close accounts of those who win consistently in order to protect the financial stability of the casinos.
