In a groundbreaking move that has sparked both curiosity and controversy, the University of Machakos in Kenya is allegedly set to pioneer a new academic frontier by introducing a degree program in Witchcraft.
The shocking initiative has triggered a wave of reactions from Zimbabweans who find the move quite outrageous and worrisome at the same time.
This initiative, slated for an April 2021 launch, marks the institution as the second globally to offer such a degree.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, this innovative course has already attracted significant interest, with numerous students expressing keenness to enrol. The university aims to harness local expertise and resources to ensure the program’s success.
“In the greater Machakos County, we have a lot of indigenous expertise that can be harnessed for the benefit of society and this is the first step towards incorporating this knowledge. We hope that this course will help young people and the younger generation so that valuable historical and cultural knowledge is not missed,” stated the Vice-Chancellor during the program’s announcement.
According to H-Metro, under the jurisdiction of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the four-year Witchcraft Degree will await approval from the University Education Board. It promises an eclectic faculty roster, drawing expertise from various regions, including Kenya, Zanzibar, Haiti, and Mexico. The program will enable students to study and have a degree in witchcraft
