In a recent ruling at the Matero Local Court, Magistrate Harriet Mulenga addressed the issue of relationships involving married men, offering a stern warning to single women.
“Fear married men; they can be liars,” she cautioned, emphasizing the importance of verifying a man’s marital status before entering a relationship.
Her remarks came during the case of Felistus Luneta, a 27-year-old housemaid from Lusaka West, who filed a suit against her 29-year-old boyfriend, Samuel Nyirenda, a married man.

Luneta sought maintenance for her unborn child, claiming Nyirenda had failed to provide necessary clothing and support.
Magistrate Mulenga criticized instances where single women choose to engage with married men knowingly, only to seek legal recourse when the relationship deteriorates.
She expressed disappointment over such choices, urging women to protect themselves from heartbreak and legal troubles by making better relationship decisions.
The case occurred under complex circumstances, as Luneta and Nyirenda had previously engaged in an affair while working together at the same residence, meeting clandestinely at a friend’s house.
