In an unexpected turn of events, South African musician Makhadzi apologised publicly to Zimbabwean musician Winky D on social media following a festival dispute in the UK.
The apology follows Makhadzi’s earlier claim that Winky D ruined her performance at the Africa Music Festival, which sparked a firestorm of criticism and controversy.
Taking to her Facebook in a since-deleted post, Makhadzi penned a public apology to Winky D. She wrote,
“Winky D my brother, you are a bigger artist than I am. I am sorry about what happened last time in the UK. I can’t wait to see you today; I have a lot to learn from you, and hopefully, we can work on something.”
Last month, in an explosive Facebook Live, Makhadzi accused Winky D of deliberately trying to overshadow her performance.
Makhadzi claimed that the organizers had conspired to sabotage her and fellow artist Jah Prayzah to promote Winky D. She alleged that Winky D extended his performance beyond his allocated time, resulting in her own set being cut short. She stated,
“Winky D, I love you my brother, but it’s like the whole thing was planned for your performance to destroy us… I don’t know if you know that, but that’s what the situation was.”
Makhadzi’s allegations sent shockwaves through the music community, particularly in Zimbabwe, where Winky D enjoys a dedicated fanbase.
Makhadzi faced massive criticism from Winky D’s legion of fans as they fiercely defended him against the blame.
