In Bulawayo, a sh0cking case of armed r0bbery has unfolded with Lewis Mbeli, a 28-year-old man, accused of orchestrating a heist against his employer’s elderly relative, Caroline Richards, who had just returned from the United States.
Spearheading the @ttack, Mbeli allegedly collaborated with four accomplices ; Tyson Moyo, Zibusiso Ndlovu, Zibusiso Manungwa, and Nqobile Nxumalo, all in their late twenties.
Prosecutors allege that Mbeli provided crucial information to the gang, asserting that Richards was in possession of substantial cash.
The r0bbery took place at Richards’ residence in Woodville, where the group executed their plan under a calculated pretext.
Distracting the household, Mbeli exited briefly under the guise of feeding the dogs, only to re-enter as if he were a victim of the assailants.
The gang then demanded money from Richards and her family, successfully stealing $2,700 in cash, along with cell phones, a laptop, clothing, and various valuables.
The suspects have since been charged with six counts of armed r0bbery and appeared before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla, who advised them to apply for bail at the High Court while remanding them in custody.
The defense attorneys for the accused, Bob Siansole and Tinashe Runganga, continue to seek a favorable outcome for their clients amid the ongoing investigation.
In a parallel case, two other suspects, Nduduzo Mthethwa and Butho Ndlovu, are implicated for allegedly assisting in another r0bbery involving the same gang.
Prosecutors claim that Mthethwa had informed the criminals that his employers in Newton West were wealthy, instigating them to engineer a heist.
To facilitate this plot, Mthethwa and his accomplices lured the husband of the targeted family to a bar, creating an opportunity for the r0bbery.
The gang then broke into the house, making off with valuables, electronics, and cash totaling around $1,500.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Magistrate Mkandla has set a remand date for all suspects until December 13, with investigators continuing to probe these alarming criminal activities that have rattled the local community.
