In a shocking turn of events, a friendly request for a beer turned into a brutal attack that left one man fighting for his life. Kelvin Zambuko (31) from Village 4 Chikwirira in Chiredzi allegedly attacked his fellow villager, Brighton Mupfumba (40), with a stone to the head after Mupfumba refused to buy him a drink.
The incident, which occurred on May 29 at Chikwirira Township, has left Mupfumba hospitalized in serious condition. Zambuko was arrested and is currently assisting the police with investigations.
According to Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the motive behind the attack was Mupfumba’s refusal to buy beer for Zambuko. “I confirm an incident of attempted murder where a man was attacked with a stone by the accused after he refused to buy beer for him,” said Insp Dhewa.
The police are urging members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully, without resorting to violence. It’s a lesson that Zambuko might have learned a bit too late.
As for Mupfumba, he’s just trying to recover from his ordeal. Let’s hope he doesn’t have to buy Zambuko a beer anytime soon.
In a bizarre twist, Mupfumba had gone to drink beer with friends at Chikwirira Township on the day of the incident but didn’t return home. His father, Moses Mupfumba (73), searched for him but couldn’t find him until the next day, when he discovered his son lying unconscious near the township.
After gaining consciousness, Brighton told his father that Zambuko had attacked him with a stone after he refused to buy beer for him. The police have confirmed that Zambuko is assisting with investigations, and Mupfumba remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Let’s hope this serves as a warning to all beer enthusiasts: don’t let your drinks get the best of you!
