On New Year’s Eve, a 40-year-old foreign national was arrested at the Beitbridge Port of Entry while attempting to drive a luxury BMW across the border into Zimbabwe.
The vehicle in question, a black BMW G70 7 Series valued at over R2 million, is reportedly wanted by a bank in South Africa.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, officers on duty observed the man as he tried to make the crossing with the high-end vehicle.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver held a South African passport and claimed that the vehicle’s actual owner was scheduled to fly to South Africa on January 1.

Thakeng confirmed that the suspect was charged with possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and for providing fraudulent documents to the South African Police Service (SAPS). The vehicle has been seized, and the man is set to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on January 3.
Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised her team for their vigilance, which led to the timely arrest. She credited the success of this operation to the increased police presence during the festive season, emphasizing the importance of maintaining safety during this busy time of year.
