A disturbing case has emerged from Kadoma, Zimbabwe, following the appearance of 28-year-old Edward Chitivha before the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court on charges of bestiality.
The incident allegedly occurred on the night of September 12, 2023, when Chitivha, a resident of the Tolrose Compound, is said to have trespassed onto the property of Isheunesu Shangudze, a 40-year-old farmer residing at Plot 9 Blagdon Farm, Eiffel Flats, where he committed heinous acts against one of Shangudze’s goats.
According to the details presented in court, Shangudze had secured his five goats for the night, believing they were safe.
However, Chitivha, seemingly undeterred by this, entered the goat pen under the cover of darkness.
Disturbingly, he allegedly removed his clothing and used them to tie the legs of a white she-goat to a pole, leading to the vi0lation of the innocent animal.
The situation escalated when Shangudze was awakened by the sounds of distress from the goat, prompting him to investigate the source of the commotion.
As he approached, he reportedly heard someone moving in the pen, causing Chitivha to flee the scene in a panic, inadvertently leaving behind his clothes.
A swift police response led to Chitivha’s arrest after Shangudze filed a complaint detailing the shocking event.
The accused has since been remanded in custody, with the court setting a date for his next hearing on September 17, 2024.
In Zimbabwe, bestiality is expressly criminalized under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23]. Section 74 specifically outlines that any s3xual act between a human and an animal is a criminal offense, reflecting broader societal values concerning the treatment of animals and ethical boundaries.
