A 53-year-old foreign national is set to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges related to the alleged possession of explosives. \
The arrest occurred on January 17, 2025, at the Beitbridge Port of Entry, where law enforcement officials intercepted a bus traveling from Zimbabwe to South Africa.
The Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation, commonly known as the Hawks, conducted a routine search of the vehicle.
According to spokesperson Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa, officers discovered a suspicious piece of luggage atop the bus’s fuel tank during their inspection.
Upon further examination, the bag was found to contain explosives.

In response, the Hawks’ bomb technicians from the Serious Organised Crime Investigation and Local Criminal Record Central unit were called to the scene.
Upon opening the luggage, they uncovered three reels of detonating fuse, each measuring 350 meters in length and valued at over R105,000, along with a passport belonging to the suspect.
Using the passport, police identified the man and subsequently placed him under arrest.
Major General (Adv) Gopz Govender, the Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Limpopo Province, praised the efforts of the team, stating, “This is a clear indication that law enforcement is winning the fight against transnational criminals.”
