A man recently shared his frustration on social media after being banned from officiating at his church because he didn’t contribute money for his pastor’s birthday.
The man, known as @Ayibatonye01 on X, explained that he was asked to donate for the celebration, but he chose not to.
In his post, he expressed his disappointment: “I didn’t send money for Papa’s birthday, and now I’m banned from officiating this Sunday. They say more punishments might come, even though they said contributions were voluntary. They don’t consider everyone’s financial situation. Others have donated, but I can’t, and I won’t.”

His story sparked a lot of reactions, with many people sharing their thoughts:
@AjeboDanny commented: “Nigerian pastors won’t rest until they make everyone miserable. You haven’t seen anything yet! 😂”
@Austeiin wrote: “You can’t be serious about this! Tell me it’s a joke! Abeg!”
@Aynoniii said: “Church leaders care more about your tithe and offering than the real problems of the people. As long as that’s fine, you’re good.”
poshest_hope added: “Honestly, this behavior is becoming all too common in the church. They don’t even care how members are surviving during this tough time.”
The man’s experience has opened a discussion about the pressures and expectations some churches place on their members.
