A 26-year-old man from Jotsholo, Matabeleland North province, has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for the horrific crime of rap!ng his 12-year-old niece.
The convicted individual, whose identity is withheld to protect the victim, faced charges at the Hwange Regional Magistrates Court including two counts of indecent assa_lt and one count of r@pe, for which he was found guilty on all charges.
The court learned that in March of this year, while the victim and her nine-year-old sister were in his care, the man entered their bedroom under the pretext of supervision and proceeded to fondle both girls, threatening them with harm should they disclose his actions.
Later that month, he raped the 12-year-old, but the @buse went unreported until May, when the victim bravely confided in her aunt during a visit.
This disclosure prompted the aunt to report the incident to the police, leading to the man’s arrest.
Ultimately, he received a 12-month sentence for the indecent ass@ults and an additional 20 years for the r@pe, recognizing the severity of his crimes against the vulnerable children.
