In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded on Boxing Day, a 34-year-old man named Brighton Munapeyi tragically lost his life after stepping on a sharp broken bottle. The incident occurred in the Manzinde area of Chipinge.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, provided details of the unfortunate series of events. Munapeyi, while returning home from Manzinde Business Centre in the early hours of Tuesday morning, suffered a deep cut on his right foot, resulting in profuse bleeding.
The chain of events leading to the tragedy began on Christmas Day when Munapeyi met his friend, Mr Hamudivamwe Bayiso (38), and the two indulged in a drinking spree at the Manzinde Business Centre. As they made their way back home near Manzinde Primary School, Munapeyi’s right slipper slipped off his foot, and he unintentionally stepped on a sharp fragment of a broken bottle, which pierced deeply into his foot.
The severity of the injury caused him to bleed profusely, prompting Mr Bayiso to inform Munapeyi’s brother, Munashe (42), about the incident. Munashe promptly rushed his injured brother to Muromo Clinic, where he received medical treatment and was discharged later that night. Munapeyi retired to bed, seemingly on the path to recovery.
However, the following morning, Munashe entered his brother’s room only to discover the tragic turn of events. Brighton Munapeyi had passed away during the night. In light of this devastating discovery, Munashe arranged for the body to be conveyed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
