A Warren Park man has found himself in trouble after allegedly tampering with telephone cables. The @ccused is contravening with the Telecommunications Act that criminalises receiving or taking possession of any telecommunication infrastructure material.
Harare magistrate , Caroline Matanga remanded Andrew Ndoro (60) in custody to April 15 following his representation by Tinashe Toriro.
Ndoro is said to have vandalized telecommunication coated copper cable by cutting one span of 20-metre cable which is owned by Netone Zimbabwe.
A security officer who was on duty caught Ndoro attempting to steal copper cables on the property he was hired to protect. The officer observed Ndoro acting suspiciously and moved in to investigate , leading to his @rrest. The theft of copper cables is a common problem in Zimbabwe as they can be easily sold for profit. However stealing copper cable results in inconvenience especially to the general public.
Fortunately ,the copper cables were successfully recovered. They weighed a total of 18.1 kilograms and were estimated to be worth $2 500.
This incident highlights the importance of taking precautions to prevent copper theft as it can cause significant financial loss. Therefore , property owners are urged to take several steps to secure their assets.
