A Norton magistrate court has found Simbarashe Tsiga, a 41-year-old Harare resident, guilty of culpable homic!de. Tsiga has been fined US$300 for his involvement in the inc!dent.
According to court proceedings, the case dates back to February this year, when Tsiga was driving along the Harare-Bulawayo road.
He lost control of his vehicle near the 30km peg and sideswiped a stationary Nissan March hatchback, causing serious !njuries to the driver. Tsiga fled the scene, but his own vehicle caught fir3 and was b+rnt.
The !njured driver was rushed to Norton Hospital but unfortunately s+ccumbed to their !njuries upon arrival. Tsiga was subsequently charged with culpable homicide for his role in the tragic !ncident.
The magistrate court ordered Tsiga to pay the US$300 fine by 30 May, 2024. If he fails to pay, Tsiga will face 30 days imprisonment. Additionally, he received a conditionally suspended sentence of six months imprisonment for five years.
