Henry Mugisha has been accused of deceiving and running away with a significant amount of money belonging to his 50-year-old girlfriend in Pretoria North.
Mugisha met the woman and began dating her, eventually convincing her to resign from her job to invest in a business venture.
The woman, trusting Mugisha, received R2.5 million in pension funds, which included some savings. She handed over the majority of the money, around R2 million, to Mugisha, believing it was for their business.
However, it seems that Mugisha had no intention of using the money for a legitimate business purpose and instead decided to abandon the woman and make off with the cash.
Police are now searching for Mugisha in connection with the theft.
It is not clear where he has gone or what his current whereabouts are.
The incident portrays the importance of being cautious when entering into financial arrangements with someone you don’t know well, and the need for thorough research and verification before investing in any business venture.
