A 49-YEAR-OLD man from Mantanjeni Village, Mbembesi, has been slapped with a five year jail term after he severely ass_ulted a fellow villager with a knobkerrie for allegedly using black magic to become rich.
According to sources, the accused, identified as Mthokozisi Ncube, became jealous of his victim’s success and accused him of using w!tchcraft to achieve his wealth. The victim had allegedly become wealthy through his business ventures in the village.
The incident occurred on March 10 when Ncube allegedly confronted the victim at his home and demanded that he reveal the secrets behind his success. When the victim refused, Ncube became enraged and att@cked him with a knobkerrie, causing serious injuri3s.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and later reported the incident to the police. Ncube was arrested and charged with _ssault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
During his trial, Ncube denied any wrongdoing and claimed that he was only defending himself against the victim’s alleged witchcraft. However, the court did not buy his defense and found him guilty of the crime.
Ncube was sentenced to five years in prison and was also ordered to pay a fine of $500 or face an additional year in prison.
