A gruesome discovery was made in Deli Village, Matabeleland North, where a man’s body was found buried in a shallow grave at a homestead. The victim, a resident of Nyamandlovu, was last seen alive last Tuesday, and his body was discovered on Monday morning.
Local villagers reported that the homestead, where three suspects had been staying, had been avoided for several days due to fears that they were armed. On the sixth day, some residents entered the yard and uncovered the grave after noticing a strong smell and signs of freshly dug soil.
The suspects, including the homeowner, are believed to have fled the area, with unconfirmed reports suggesting they may have been spotted at nearby mining sites. Villagers expressed frustration that they had alerted the police days ago, but no response had been received.
Matabeleland North Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda emphasized that no level of provocation justifies homicide and encouraged people to seek help from community leaders, clerics, or the police when disputes arise. Banda warned that those who break the law will be held accountable, stating that justice will take its course.
