Robert Nkwe, 41, of Molepolole’s Legonono ward, Botswana, has been remanded in custody after appearing in Molepolole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
He faces two counts: m_rder and threat to k*ll.
The charges allege that Nkwe brutally m_dered his girlfriend’s mother, 76-year-old Banyanabatsile Baabusi, with a wooden log on August 25, 2024.
Baabusi intervened in a dispute between Nkwe and her daughter, Malefonyana, 37, over accusations of infidelity and a phone dispute. Nkwe allegedly left, retrieved a wooden log, and struck Baabusi multiple times on the head, causing severe inj_ries.
Police rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced de@d upon arrival. Nkwe also threatened to k*ll Malefonyana, saying he had already k*lled her mother.
The prosecution requested his remand pending investigation. Nkwe opted to remain silent during the proceedings.
He will remain in custody until September 8, 2024, while Baabusi’s body remains at the mortuary awaiting burial and the conclusion of police investigations.
