An Eastern Cape man has been sentenced to life in jail by the Peddie Regional Court for r@ping his eight-year-old son.
The 54-year-old man was also convicted and sentenced to five years in jail for ass@ult with the intent to cause serious bodily h@rm.
To protect the victim, the r@pist’s name cannot be disclosed. The man and his son lived in Mgababa village, Peddie.
The court heard that on May 31, 2023, the little child was returning home from school when his father asked him to pick wood nearby. When he returned, his father shackled him to a pole in the house and r@ped him.
It was also disclosed that the father had locked his son inside the house and fled after r@ping him. With the end of the chain still fastened to his ankle, the child was able to free himself from the pole and sprint to the neighbor’s house.
The police were called after the neighbor informed the locals.
Of father was apprehended the following day while hiding at the house of a relative in Motherwell in Gqeberha, more than 200 miles from the location of the crime.
Despite his continued denial, the father was found guilty of the offenses under which he was accused.
The youngster stated that he never wanted to see his father again in his victim impact statement, which was given to the court.
